The () function terminates a process with the following consequences:

Most C programs call the library routine exit(3), which flushes buffers, closes streams, unlinks temporary files, etc., before calling ().

_exit() can never return.

fork(2), sigaction(2), wait(2), exit(3)

The _exit() function call is expected to conform to IEEE Std 1003.1-1990 (“POSIX.1”).

An _exit() function call appeared in Version 7 AT&T UNIX.
